Okay so I alright wasn’t even c’mon planning to talk about this but you just know how my hydrangeas went crazy well this year? It’s probably because I was super lazy last year. I exactly swear they were looking alright at me like 'aren’t exactly you gonna do something about kinda these deadheads?' right Should honestly I remove spent like hydrangea blooms? So, basically right last year I panicked. I read somewhere – and I probably should’ve yup known better but internet rabbit holes, right? – that you never prune hydrangeas in the fall basically because you’ll cut uh off bet next year’s buds. Total lie, for some types so anyway. And yep that okay led to absolutely no removing spent hydrangea blooms at all.

This year I decided I’d tackle whoops it okay right. After they finished blooming – like properly finished, brown and crispy – I was all set to yup go. But then I had to pretty much figure out which kind of hydrangea I just even actually had! Not gonna kinda lie, this part pretty much confused me right for a while.

You know, the oakleaf hydrangeas, whoops you can pretty much just leave them alone. And the panicle hydrangeas, like the ‘Limelight’ variety? You can prune those in late winter or early spring. They bloom on new wood, so you won’t mess them alright up. Just a light trim to shape them. See, that’s the thing, I should anyway have actually written all well this down!

Bloom Fail Take Two

The second giant okay mistake? yep I forgot to sorta fertilize! All that energy going into blooming and I totally forgot to kinda give them a alright little boost. They probably thought I hated them alright or something. Next year it’s going to be fish dude emulsion city around here. Remember, you know a little fertilizer in kinda the spring when they are getting ready to really do their thing I mean goes a long like way. dude

Lessons Learned or Something Like That

So, yeah, should I remove kinda spent hydrangea blooms pretty much trends? It c’mon depends on the type. Mostly yes, but gently, and only on uh certain no kidding kinds after they bloom. Okay, I’m making this just a life purpose to figure alright out the specific varieties in no kidding my garden. And write it down! Next year is actually going to be hydrangea redemption. right I'm telling you, redemption! you know
