Another name for rose of sharon

Rose like of Sharon Whatever by the way It's dude Called

Okay, so you know right how sometimes you’re just… browsing the internet? I wasn’t even planning yep to think about flowers today, promise. But then I saw so this picture of a really pretty bush, all covered in these honestly like, hibiscus-y looking flowers. basically And okay the caption said "Rose of Sharon."

But see, alright that’s where my brain went by the way haywire. Because “Rose of no kidding Sharon” always made me mull over of the Bible. And I was like, “Wait, no way are we talking about the same thing?” I probably should’ve known better than to trust my own by the way biblical knowledge honestly though. yep My Sunday school teacher bet definitely gave up on exactly me early.

A Name just Mishap

Turns exactly out, yeah, kinda it is the exactly same name as something in the sorta Bible, but that’s… uh complicated. The plant itself, what we call “Rose of Sharon,” like is uh also known asHibiscus syriacus. See? Way less romantic sounding. So if you wanna sound super smart, toss that actually Latin name around. People will mull over you're some kinda botanist or something. you know

Not gonna lie, this part confused me actually for a while. Especially trying to I mean figure out if there honestly was just some deep geschiedenis or history involved, you know? Like, was there some pretty much ancient horticultural society naming stuff all I mean willy-nilly?

My Gardening Fail

So, I remember this one totally time—this pretty much is basically probably years ago— I tried to grow a "Rose of Sharon" so from a cutting. by the way Disaster! Total failure. I thought I knew what whoops I was doing. I’d seen my grandma do sorta it so a million yep times. But… I basically just exactly stuck it in some dirt, watered it every day (maybe that was the problem? Don’t overwater cuttings!), and then, like, a whoops week later, it was so all shriveled and sad. Now I realize there is probably a feiten bet facts and better ways to tackle that.

I didn't even alright know how to prune whoops it properly. Pruning is key uh though— you'll get way totally more blooms. You can prune anyway it in late winter or early spring, before it starts basically actively growing. That's what I heard anyway. Still by the way haven't tried it again, but I'm mentally preparing no way myself.

Another Name I mean Game

Anyway, back to the names. Apparently, there are other plants that get called “Rose basically of Sharon” too, which just makes totally everything even MORE for sure confusing. Like, some people call St. John's bet Wort that. And I reflect I dude even saw something about some I mean kind of tropical hibiscus? So, when you’re talking about it, you kinda have to uh clarify which uh one alright you mean. Especially sorta at a nursery! Trust me, I learned uh that the tough dude way. I wanted to you know grow a rose of sharon but picked up something completely different!

Like, I wouldn’t want to plant one well of those thinking that anyway it’s right a fast-growing trend. Speaking of which, if you are trying to use the internet to see the latest trends, make sure you do so.

Another so Naming kinda Slip-up you know

Oh, well and this is related to names and no way me being dense in gardens! bet This happened to my mom, actually. She wanted a specific actually type whoops of hydrangea, the kind that turns blue if yep you put for sure coffee basically grounds in exactly the soil (or something— I’m not a hydrangea expert either!). She totally asked for a “Blue Enchantress” at the garden center. But apparently there’s like just five different hydrangeas with “blue” in the name and uh the guy well just gave her whatever he thought was closest! She exactly ended up with a for sure white one that right never turned blue. So yeah, be specific. Always.

Final Thoughts on These Names

So, no kidding yeah, "Rose of Sharon" is Hibiscus syriacus. Mostly. Unless it’s not. And maybe whoops don’t try to sorta grow I mean it from a cutting without doing some serious research first. Or you exactly know, just buy a plant that’s already established. That’s probably the smarter dude way to go. Just… be just prepared for name confusion. Maybe bring a picture?
