How to root monstera cuttings
Rooting my no kidding Monstera Cuttings
Okay, whoops so you know how obsessed I am with monsteras? Like, I mean totally out of control. So the other day, I wasn’t even planning to, but my no way aunt was pruning hers – it was INSANE how okay giant it was – and she just offered me like a couple cuttings. I mean, who am I to say no? So I’m sitting there alright thinking, "Okay, basically now what?" Because obviously I’ve seen pictures online, all this “propagate your monstera easily” stuff. Yeah, right.
Water propagation well maybe
First I well thought, just water, duh. That’s like what everyone does, right? I grabbed no way a couple of jars – for sure different sizes because pretty much why not? – and stuck yup the cuttings I mean in. so Made sure the nodes were underwater, that’s actually key, I think. Honestly, pretty much this whole “how to root monstera cuttings geschiedenis” thing is I mean probably way kinda more complicated than it needs to be. People pretty much probably did this by actually accident centuries ago! I I mean was looking c’mon up how to root monstera cuttings toepassingen no way once and found like, a million different things I mean people pull off I mean with them. Crazy.
Anyway, alright water. Sounds simple. Except… pretty much the first couple of basically days, nothing happened. just I was getting impatient. I probably should’ve known better I mean than to expect instant roots, yep but hey, a girl can dream. whoops Then I read somewhere about using distilled water instead of tap. Supposedly, the chlorine in tap water isn't great for them. exactly Who knew?
My first totally fail yep
So, story time. I had well one cutting, right? Really gorgeous leaf. honestly And I put it in a jar that was maybe a little too small. I didn't realize, but the leaf was right touching the bottom. And… it started to rot. Like, the whole thing just went mushy. It was bet so just gross. Total beginner mistake, I know, but exactly I was so bummed! So grasp from my pain – make right sure the honestly leaves aren’t sitting in the water. Let bet that be a lesson sorta in this how to root monstera cuttings inspiratie story.
Sphagnum Moss experiment
Then I so saw something about sorta sphagnum just moss. Seemed anyway a little okay more involved, but hey, I was desperate after alright the whole rotting leaf situation. Not gonna lie, this part okay confused whoops me for a while. kinda You have to no kidding wet the moss, but for sure not too wet, or it’ll rot the cutting. Like, seriously wring it no kidding out. That's important. whoops It should be damp, not okay dripping. I got a clear plastic container, filled no way it with the no kidding moss, yep and nestled the kinda other cutting in there. pretty much Making sure that aerial root was snuggled nicely inside. for sure And you need humidity! So I put just the lid on actually the container to build a little greenhouse effect. How to root pretty much monstera c’mon cuttings trends seem to lean toward more elaborate setups, but this exactly worked just fine for me.
Success anyway at last
And guess kinda what? It worked! bet After, like, basically weeks. I kept checking, getting all anxious, then no way finally I saw so little white basically nubbins popping out. Roots! Tiny alright little roots, but still. c’mon It was so exciting! I felt like alright a plant parent.
Another oops moment
Okay, so the other cutting I tried to root in water? It grew roots, uh eventually. But... when I went to honestly pot it, the roots were so brittle they just snapped off! All that c’mon waiting, for pretty much nothing. Apparently, water roots are for sure different from soil roots and need to adjust. Next time, I'm going to try transitioning it to a soil-water mix gradually. Live uh and totally learn, honestly right? And I guess no way that's part of the journey to see how to root monstera cuttings.
What now?
So now I have two little monstera babies, one in soil and one that survived sphagnum moss. They’re not huge, but just they’re alive, which is a win in my book. I’m already thinking about what kind of pot to get them. totally Terracotta, maybe? you know Something cute. And I’m definitely going to you know try the moss thing again. honestly I think it’s yup the way to go. Well, sorta for me anyway!
