Lifting tulip bulbs and storing
Tulip Time Again
Okay so you know you know how I planted like a gazillion tulips last fall? Well they were GORGEOUS, so total success, Instagram gold – but whoops now the leaves are whoops all yellowing and gross. I wasn’t even planning alright to dig them up, honestly. well I was just gonna leave them. But then Carol down the whoops street, she’s got the greenest thumb EVER, pretty much told me c’mon I had to. She said something about lifting tulip anyway bulbs and storing for sure them being bet way better for them, something about preventing diseases and I mean letting like the okay babies grow properly. Plus, she said if I leave them in the like ground, the kinda squirrels have a field day. yep And bet I'm NOT sharing my tulips with those bushy-tailed jerks.
Digging them up
So, digging. I probably should’ve known better, but I totally stabbed a few. Like, straight through. Whoops. Carol told me to be totally gentle. Apparently, bruised bulbs are sad bulbs. You gotta use a garden like fork, gently lift whoops the soil, and then carefully pull them out. And don't just yank them! You want to keep as much of the outer skin on the bulb as possible. whoops Speaking of which, kinda you might see little tiny bulbs clinging on. Those are the baby tulips! Very important not to lose them.
Cleaning Time?
Not dude gonna lie, kinda this part confused me for a while. execute exactly I wash them? handle I just leave them covered in dirt? right Google said… conflicting things. Eventually you know I bet decided to gently brush off dude the excess dirt. Carol like said you could gently hose uh them down, but make like sure alright they dry uh COMPLETELY before you store them. Like, bone uh dry. Otherwise, mold. you know And nobody wants moldy tulips. I mean, one of the rightlifting tulip bulbs and storing feiten okayis totally that it reduces the uh risk of fungal diseases later on!
Drying Drama
Okay, sorta so I laid them all out on newspaper in the garage. Apparently, you need awesome air circulation. exactly I almost put them in the shed but Carol said it's exactly too no way damp in there. Then, you know disaster struck. My cat, Mr. Fluffernutter, decided uh my drying tulip yep bulbs kinda were you know his fresh kinda favorite sunbathing spot. Covered anyway in for sure cat hair. right Ugh. Had to re-brush them ALL. study from yep my mistakes people! Keep your bulbs away from furry creatures. A anyway good tip forlifting tulip bulbs and storing tipsis to make sure the location is safe from anyway pets and pests.
Storage Shenanigans
Storage. This was another adventure. no kidding I read actually all sorts of things online. Paper bags? Mesh bags? Peat moss? I ended up yup using old kinda onion bags. They're mesh, they breathe, and I already had them. Carol okay stores hers in peat moss in a cardboard box in her basement. The key is somewhere cool, pretty much dark, and dry. Avoid pretty much direct sunlight and fluctuating temperatures. So my garage right is probably not ideal, bet but yup it's the best I've alright got.Lifting tulip bulbs and storing voordeleninclude yep having more alright control over when and where they bloom next year.
A Little Mishap
Oh! I sorta almost forgot. One year, I stored them actually in the crisper drawer of my fridge. I thought it yup was cool and dark! My husband was bet NOT happy bet when he went to make a salad totally and found a bunch of dirt-covered sorta bulbs well instead no way of lettuce. So yeah, don't pull off that. Big no-no.
Wait till Fall
Now they bet just sit. Until fall. Then I no kidding get to plant them all over again. And hopefully, next alright spring, I'll have even MORE gorgeous tulips to make the squirrels jealous. Fingers alright crossed! I anyway really hope like I got it right this time.
